Hundreds of cities across the U.S. and Canada took part in this record-breaking movement, inspired by Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) and powered by members of the Body by Vi Challenge Community.

Blake’s Operation Transformation

Bodybuilders, trainers and others looking to add lean muscle mass are also gravitating to the Challenge.  It’s become a popular vehicle for this regimented group of men and women to ensure their bodies are provided with the proper nutrients during intense training.

ViSalus Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer Blake Mallen figured that the best way to test the products being developed for the new Fit Kit was to be the guinea pig himself!

Mallen publically declared a goal that many thought would never be possible:  Add 20 pounds of lean muscle mass in 90 days through diet, exercise, and ViSalus products!

The Body by Vi^TM Challenge makes sense from a fitness standpoint largely because our bodies are essentially machines that work best when given idea nutrition.  So whether your goal is to run a 5K, bike up a mountain or swim in the ocean, the best way to prepare your body for these activities is to ingest the proper nutrients to make sure your body fires on all cylinders!

I have been involved in the health and fitness industry for 20 years.  I was a 12-time IFBB Pro Figure Champion, including the 2003-2005 Arnold Classic Figure International Champion and the 2006-2007 Figure Olympia Champion, before retiring from competition in 2009.  In January 2010 I became aligned with ViSalus Sciences and became an Ambassador later that year.  Since then, I have helped two other professional athletes become Ambassadors as well.  Now I get to stay fit and healthy and teach people how to do the same, which is my absolute passion!

Our children are the future – and so is technology.  This isn’t breaking news.  But what happens when one becomes a detriment to the other?  That’s the unfortunate issue we’re facing as a country.  While today’s incredible technological advancements are increasing the ways we learn and conduct business, they’re simultaneously having an adverse effect on our kids.

Today, 32 percent of all children and adolescents in America qualify as overweight or obese.  Their eating habits and sedentary hobbies are quickly putting them at higher risk for health conditions associated with too much weight and too little physical exercise.

Whereas high-tech capabilities are catapulting early education years ahead of prior generations, how do we compensate for the loss of physical fitness, and the influx of cost-friendly fast-food chains?

Thankfully, the White House has addressed the issue.  An initiative headed by First Lady Michelle Obama has the ultimate goal of reversing childhood obesity and getting America’s kids healthy again.  Hers is a mission that not only impacts the health and well-being of children across the country, but potentially the economic bottom line of the United States for years to come.

Doing Our Part

Their premise is simple:  “Catch on now, so you don’t have to catch up later,” says rap star and It’s Time Kids spokesman Romeo Miller.  He and his father, Percy Miller, a five-time Grammy Award-winner and music mogul turned successful entrepreneur, are using their star and brain power to educate middle-school kids about the pitfalls of growing up in urban communities.

“What’s happening in many cases in urban communities is they’re only being marketed junk food, alcohol and cigarettes,” explains Blair.  Urban Born speaks to kids at a time when they are most at risk and with a voice they understand.  Using true stories  and music, Urban Born conveys critical messages through the 45-minute outreach programs they bring to urban schoolchildren.

Blair personally pledged $100,000 to jump-start a joint project between the Body by Vi Community Challenge, the It’s Time Kids program and Urban Born.  Together they’re working to eliminate childhood obesity in the United States.
