John Purdy brings to ViSalus nearly 30 years of global leadership in executive roles with companies such as Herbalife and Amway.

LOS ANGELES, CA – February 16^th, 2010 – ViSalus Sciences has added a direct selling industry veteran to its executive management team with the hiring of John B. Purdy as the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

Purdy most recently held a variety of leadership roles over a 13 year career at Herbalife, including Director of North American Operations, Senior Vice President of International Operations and Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific. He led Herbalife’s efforts in Japan, increasing sales of this leading market during a dramatic growth period from 1995-1999. As Senior Vice President of International Operations, he was responsible for the International Expansion Group which successfully opened markets in Europe and Asia.

In Purdy, ViSalus adds a seasoned executive who has risen through the ranks of two multi-billion-dollar companies. Purdy was instrumental in both maintaining the stability of mature markets as well as launching and growing new emerging markets.

Prior to his time with Herbalife, Purdy was with Amway Corporation for more than 15 years, holding various management positions as he rose to senior manager of Amway’s California operations center.

Purdy will work primarily from the company’s Beverly Hills office, where his focus will be enhancing the Customer and Distributor experience and improving operational efficiency in all aspects of the company.

If we compare that to an ‘average’ breakfast of a bagel with cream cheese, small orange juice and coffee with non-fat milk, you can see we provide more nutrition for less calories. The ‘average’ breakfast can add up to around 720 calories, and a whopping 880mg of sodium. The goal is to not cut too many calories, or the body can feel that it is in starvation mode and slow the metabolism further. The U.S. government recommends that we consume a minimum of 1,200 calories per day. 7. I’ve tried other shakes, and they don’t taste as good. Why is that?

8. Why soy protein? Does it impact estrogen?

Soy is an excellent source of protein that delivers healthy heart benefits. It has been specially processed to remove the isoflavones, which are the active compound in soy that can affect estrogen.

12. Why artificial sweeteners?

To control calories, and the impact of sugar on glucose levels, we chose to use sweeteners. Many overweight people are diabetic, or borderline diabetic, and we did not want to have a product that they could not use. There is a lot of misinformation out on the internet about sweeteners, and there is no ‘perfect’ sweetener that can meet everyone’s needs. For example, xylitol and other sugar alcohols can cause diarrhea in up to 20% of the population, so it is not an ideal sweetener to us. Stevia has only recently been approved in the U.S., but is still pending global approvals. It can impart a bitter or licorice after taste that some people do not like. Agave has fructose, which can impact hunger. Sugar can impact blood sugar and impact tooth health. Aspartame is a sweetener that causes concerns for some people, as when it is heated it can degrade. We do not use those sweeteners. We use sucralose, which has been approved globally in over 60 countries, and has passed rigid approval processes for safety. It can be used hot or cold.

13. Why one flavor?

Our Sweet Cream flavor was designed to be mixed with fruit, yogurt, juice, or even into oatmeal if you want to add more protein to your diet! Its Saturday morning, and as I reflect on this week there were triumphs and, well… slacking!  Good thing its only day 38 of the Body By Vi Challenge and I have plenty of time to get back up and push forward with more intensity!

I actually worked out a full 5 days this week:

Monday was 60 minutes of zumba.
Tuesday 60 minutes of kickboxing.
Wednesday was 30 minutes of a high intensity step class followed by 60 minutes of strength training.
Thursday was 60 minutes of Zumba.
Friday was 20 minutes on the elliptical trainer followed by 60 minutes of strength training. I increased the weight I was lifting, and felt really strong.

Each day I was up and out in the morning after getting the kids to the bus.  It was easy to resolve to do 5 days of workouts when I had to be up and out with the kids anyway.

So where was the slacking? Why don’t I feel all fuzzy and happy with my accomplishment?  Because I had ice cream cake and carrot cake and baked apple cake and (part of) a chocolate muffin and half a cinnamon bun!

I had totally gone off sugar.  In fact, I couldn’t eat it at all for a few months.  The only sugar I had was from the honey in my tea… and I felt fantastic!  And suddenly this week, I could tolerate it – I didn’t feel dizzy and yucky after eating it… it was just yummy!
And this is NOT good for womens weight loss!

I honestly don’t think I gained more than a pound.  The Vi-Slim with the metabolism boosters and fat burners in the ViSalus TSS kit actually work.. so I still feel good about the way I look and feel.  Didn’t gain much… but I certainly didn’t lose anything either!

How did this all start?  My neighbor came over with a gift for the kids… ice cream cake.
You see, I don’t keep ANY sweets in the house.  Nothing that would tempt me, or instill unhealthy snacking habits in my children.  If we have any treats, its outside the house – and not often.  You won’t find snack cakes or cookies in my kids lunches either.  Call me a mean Mom – I know I’m fueling their brains properly!

So it was a little slice of ice cream cake that started the whole thing… Then a half a slice of carrot cake at the coffee shop, and a bit of cake at Ikea after shopping and … well, you get the idea.

So I’m thrilled I have 52 days to go – because it means I can ‘get back on the wagon’. I can re-commit to my weight loss goals and start over with major resolve on Monday to knock the rest of these pounds off, and build up some major muscle.

How will I lose the weight & increase muscle on a daily basis?
~A Trim Slim Shake with frozen fruit for breakfast. 1/2 on the way to the gym, the other half on the way home.

I’m going to follow the PLAN – the proven plan that works!

Let this be a lesson… you can’t expect maximum results from anything if you follow the instructions only part of the way.
If you want to lose weight, you can do it slowly by replacing one meal a day with the Trim Slim Shake.
